Dashcamhq: David Bennett, Reading the Fine Print on Dashcams
Section titled Dashcamhq%3A%20David%20Bennett%2C%20Reading%20the%20Fine%20Print%20on%20Dashcams
I’m David Bennett, and I live in Australia. Dashcams interest me, and I’m not going to dress that up as anything bigger. Spec sheets are confusing, prices swing from $60 to $600, and a lot of overseas advice ignores Australian heat, Australian roads and Australian laws.
This site is my attempt to sort that out in plain language. It’s new, and I’d like you to be able to tell that.
What I Do Here
Section titled What%20I%20Do%20HereI read what manufacturers publish, compare it across models, and explain what the numbers mean for a driver here. Then I point out where a claim is vague or unsupported.
- Specs, explained. What a loop-recording setting does, why a supercapacitor and a battery behave differently in a hot car, and what “4K” doesn’t tell you about reading a number plate.
- Australian rules. State and territory differences on windscreen mounting and audio recording, linked to the official source wherever I can.
- Buying guides. Who a camera suits and who should skip it, based on published specifications and the retailer’s return terms.
What I Will Never Claim
Section titled What%20I%20Will%20Never%20Claim- That I tested something. I haven’t tested any of it.
- A credential I don’t hold. There are no certifications, no “expert panel” and no “reviewed by” anybody.
- Tenure. I won’t call myself long-time or a veteran, and I won’t put a number of years on anything. My framing is interest, which is true.
- A star rating dressed up as a review of a product I used. If a score appears, it summarises published specifications and says so.
- Social proof this site doesn’t have.
What This Site Is Not
Section titled What%20This%20Site%20Is%20Not- Not a test lab. I say so everywhere it matters, including above the first affiliate link on every commercial page.
- Not a shop. Nothing is sold here. Links go to retailers, and I earn a commission if you buy.
- Not a car enthusiast site. There are no performance parts, no modifications and no project builds. It’s only about dashcams.
- Not medical advice. Where a page covers comfort, such as how a mount sits or how a cable runs, it describes product geometry and materials. It doesn’t diagnose or treat anything.
How I Keep Pages Honest
Section titled How%20I%20Keep%20Pages%20HonestI check every article against manufacturer documentation and official Australian sources before it goes live. I write, read and edit each page myself for accuracy and clarity, and I don’t pass that off as an outside review. When a model is discontinued, a firmware update changes a feature or a rule changes, I update the page and show the date I last revised it.
Affiliate links are marked clearly. Sponsored or supplied products, if there ever are any, will be labelled at the top of the page. Read our affiliate disclosure for the details.
One Last Thing
Section titled One%20Last%20ThingIf a page here sounds more certain than the evidence allows, tell me. I’d rather fix it than defend it.
